The healtheConnect Alaska Board of Directors unanimously selected Laura Young to be the organization’s Interim Executive Director, effective July 31, 2017. Ms. Young joined healthEconnect Alaska through a contract with CedarBridge Group LLC, an Oregon-based consulting firm. “We are very excited to work with CedarBridge and Laura as we continue to implement our strategic plan and facilitate the sharing of health information across Alaska,” said Board Chair Nancy Merriman, at the time of Ms. Young’s selection.
The Board of Directors selected Ms. Young as the permanent executive director of healtheConnect Alaska in April 2018.
Ms. Young has a background in leading health information exchange initiatives, and in using technology to coordinate patient care across multiple providers and organizations. She has degrees in Information Technology and Health Services Management. Laura has been a leader in the healthcare IT sector for over 10 years with a specific focus on Clinical IT and HIE systems. Laura previously worked as an IT Director at Banner Health where she managed their private HIE and their ambulatory EHR. She joined Behavioral Health Network of Arizona (BHINAZ) in January 2013 and spent almost 4 years as the Executive Director, becoming a Subject Matter Expert on HIE, Interoperability and 42 CFR Part 2. She currently serves nationally as the Vice Chair of the HIMSS Interoperability & Health Information Exchange Committee, as well as the eHealth Initiatives Connecting Communities Workgroup.
